Black Letter & The Broadsheet Balladeers Cool tunes - makes 1968 relevant again. Lalo Schifrin couldn't have done it better - get yourself a 1967 Ford Mustang, dress sharp, ratch up the volume, and make sure you have a cool platinum blonde in the passenger seat - San Francisco here I come. Brilliant album.

awi1993 An incredible album made by masters of their craft, Seven Wisdoms of Plutonia guides you on a musical journey through the landscapes of an ancient and mystical world while sounding amazing in the process. My favorite album of 2022.

If there is one good thing to come out of the lockdowns, it's the Alpacas Collective. Favorite track: Stranger To Myself.

Bernissart 02:48
We looked up as blades of orange cut through the dull grey sky Though the day had not even begun this would be our only view of the sun So we went down into coal black darkness like we had done a thousand times before and descended deep down and hacked away at the inside of the earth once more But in the deepest black of darkness we hit upon trunks all filled with gold that shone like the rays of the morning sun Could it be our day had finally come? Alas, we were no more than fools tricked by a worthless glow and so, the most fabulous of riches slipped right through our fingers But as they wiped off the dust of millions of years and discovered the wildest of creatures the roar of those magnificent beasts rang forever in our miserable ears

about

"Killer psychedelic jam blending afro sitar funk and ethio jazz sounds! Tip!" - Music Mania Records

"While “Seven Wisdoms of Plutonia” continues a recent trend of bringing African flavours to jazz-funk groove, the enthusiasm in the performances makes this an exceptional and enjoyable example of that approach." - UK Vibe

"A mad batch of funky grooves, with a world's worth of influences in the mix – elements of African, Indian, and other styles – all wrapped around some mighty funky instrumentation at the core!" - Dusty Grooves

"Alpacas Collective sounds really impressive.....a group of musicians who made their mark somewhere in a shadow world that mere mortals like us don't know about." - Da Music

"I think you are able to catch that afro/ethiojazz sound but not only play it but give something yours to this music." - Izvorista Radio

"Seven Wisdoms of Plutonia' bestows some wonderful moments throughout the album and with great excitement we'll await the collective's next adventure, no doubt, to even further and great magical lands." - Blue In Green Radio

Alpacas Collective (BE) takes you on a trip from Lagos to Addis Ababa, from Augusta, Georgia to New Orleans, and from Delhi to sci-fi worlds, bringing it all back home in a unique set of original songs featured on its debut album Seven Wisdoms of Plutonia.

During the covid 19 pandemic, when everyone was in lockdown the group retreated underground for a quest to soul saving creativeness, to come out again as Alpacas Collective with a first release.

'Seven Wisdoms of Plutonia' was worked out in a process of sitting at home, exchanging demos via the net and 1/1 recordings in the studio. An excellent opportunity for collaboration with befriended musicians who put their stamp on the music with their 'typical' sound. On the album 15 musicians contribute.

On 'Seven Wisdoms of Plutonia' we explore areas beyond the scope of our live performances. On this album we bundled influences from ethio-jazz, afrobeat, kraut and Indian sounds that we tied together on the backbeats of funk.

The recorded tracks were created through a combination of written structures and developed with the elements of improvisation or spontaneous composition that each musician brought to the recording sessions. Our percussionist Frederik Kühn did a great job recording, mixing and producing all the tracks.

Inspiration for the atmosphere and the title of the album came from the artwork created by the Leuven artist Luis Lambrechts. The artwork refers to an underworld, beneath our feet, with rivers, lakes, volcanoes, its own solar system, 'monstrous' animals and a 'primitive' people.
The resemblance to the book 'Plutonia', a science fiction novel from 1924, by the Russian writer Vladimir Obruchev is striking.
A fat nod to the work and philosophy of jazz icon Sun Ra is nice touch. (Think of the LP 'Nubians of Plutonia')

We would like to thank Juha Sarkkola (guitar), Miki Mac (vocals), Katia Verheyen (flute), Micky Peeters (keys), Joël van Roode (sitar), Jasper Vandevorst (vibraphone) and Geert Claes (trumpet) for their creative contributions to the music.
